My Bounty
I tried cleaning Dave's bathroom yesterday, I really did. But I sadly underestimated the power of man funk. The shower in there has become the bane of my existance. When we moved in I thought they doors on the shower stall were frosted. They aren't. They were just soap scummed to hell. I have never been able to get them completely clean. The one thing worse than man funk is previous owner funk (POF). Included in the POF was the tray to the shower stall. It is stained a dirty dingy color.
I scurbbed and scrubbed and scrubbed some more both the shower doors and the shower floor. The doors look a little better, but the floor looks like all I did was spit on it and wipe it with my sleeve. (I tried that first, it didn't work) I eventually had to stop because I inhaled so much Tilex Mold and Mildew (oh, did I forget to mention the mildew around the tray because they didn't caulk it right, POF made worse by man funk) that I swore my cats could fly and I thought about joining them. I tried opening the window; I even set up a fan in the bathroom to blow the fume heavy air out the window. Nothing helped. My eyes were stinging and red and I thought I might pass out so I quit. You can still smell the Tilex today even in the bedroom. Very conducive to romance. Hey, baby, is that Tilex you're wearing? It is conducive to sleep however as it will knock you on your ass.
So I made a trek this morning to Target to find a better way. And I found this:

My bounty. There is a scrubber brush for those hard to reach areas. Clorox bleach pens so I can try to get the grout clean. Method Bathroom Cleaner in a lovely cucumber scent so I don't pass out. Method Daily Shower Cleaner (in ylang ylang, what IS that??) so when I do get it clean we can do some preventative maintence. And the holy grail, the Black & Decker Scum Buster.
The package claims it does the scrubbing for me, but that lazy bastard has been in the bathroom for an hour and hasn't done a damn thing. It has to charge for 16 hours so I'll let you know how it works tomorrow. Unless I get a sudden urge to bust scum at 4:30 in the morning. Now I have the Ghostbusters song stuck in my head, but it's changed to Scumbusters.
Since this was all I bought I went to the express lane and there was a guy in front of my who was buying four pairs of pastel boxer shorts (adult sized) and a Dinotopia video (although the cover of his looked like it was a cartoon). The cashier looked at him and told him he looked really familiar. Turns out he was a teacher and she had him in ninth grade for biology. He looked as if he had no recollection of her at all, but pretended he did. For those inquiring minds who want to know, she ended up taking five science classes her senior year, just graduated, and will be going to college in the fall. There really isn't a point to this story, but I thought it must have been pretty embarrassing for the teacher to buy his pastel colored underware and cartoons from his former student. Makes you wonder what he has planned for this weekend though.

Oh, cleaning bathrooms is the worst. I have the Scumbuster. It's ok. I use the Clorox pen for grout, too, and it does a pretty good job. I haven't tried the Method cleaners. Let us know how they work. I hate cleaning product fumes with a passion. Good luck with it all!

I LOVE Method cleaners. I have everything, hand soap, the cuke bathroom cleaner, their wood polisher, dishwasher tabs, everything is fabulous. I like them because I have serious problems with the chemical smells and the intensity of the cleaner on my skin. Anyway, you'll like it.
Good luck with the bathroom, I did mine today too. Ick.

Well if those don't work, might I suggest a sledge hammer?
Clorox spray with bleech is my favorite bathroom cleaner - that and soft scrub with bleach. My DH never really cleaned the bathroom before I moved in so I've been through what you're faced with, it's harder with a shower stall because you can't soak it. Good luck

The scumbuster looks like hella fun! Let us know how it turns out, I would love to find something to help me clean my tub better.
And I second the bleach pens. I have them all around the house, especially near the laundry to get stains out of the whites.
Also, my most favorite cleaning invention is the Mr. Clean magic eraser. That thing will take any scuff mark off the walls. It's quite brilliant. I love my swiffer too.
Yes it's the simple things in life that make me happy. So scary that I get this excited about cleaning products...
