Now that's just W-rong

I've officially been denied for my FMLA. After talking to four separate people this morning they tell me they won't approve FMLA because this is ELECTIVE and I would not be incapacitated.

Bite me.

The case worker said, "Well maybe if you were having surgery for the infertility or having an acutal procedure we could approve it, but not for this." I'm not sure what she thinks an IUI is, but in my book it's an honest to goodness bonafide procedure. Basically I'm not infertile enough. I'm sub-sub-fertile. I'm the Diet Coke of infertility, just one calorie, not quite infertile enough.

I had a nice long chat with The Supervisor. I calmly explained that no where in any of the papers I received did it mention that FMLA was not available for "elective" procedures. Not that this is elective. I also gently pointed out that you can FMLA for pregnancy and prenatal care, which for most is elective. Granted I don't have any personal experience in this, but I don't believe prenatal care is incapacitating. If it is I may need to rethink this whole pregnancy thing.

Eventually she said I did have the right to appeal if I wanted. Your damn right I want to! It isn't fair and it isn't right. After they receive my letter of appeal they will make there final decision in 30-45 days. By that time hopefully my cycle will be over. Maybe then I'll be pregnant and be able to take FMLA for that. Ha!

I asked if taking the time unplanned for these procedures treatments would result in disciplinary action. Yes. So basically I can't take the time off work for my infertility treatments without getting fired and I can't pay for the infertility treatments without a job.

Nice.

It makes me wonder if they are doing this so they don't have to pay for my treatments. I dropped my coverage with their insurance, but I am still covered under them through my husband's policy. Mighty convenient huh?

You know... for an insurance company, they do see to be a bunch of jerks. Can't they see that this is an emotional time for you?
